Have you missed the blood, gore and sex of Starz’s Spartacus franchise? Tonight the cable network’s hit gladiator drama returns with Spartacus: Vengeance, which picks up where Spartacus: Blood and Sands left off. Spartacus: Vengeance stars Liam McIntyre, who took over the role of Spartacus after Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. 

Zap2it caught up with Spartacus: Vengeance show runner Steven DeKnight, who previewed this season’s body count. 

"It's a Steve DeKnight show. I learned at the knee of Joss Whedon. I'm going to probably kill somebody you love. I mean, that just happens. In this show, each season, we will continue to kill off our beloved children. Like we did at the end of Season 1.

Spartacus is returning and he’s out for vengeance! That’s right folks, Starz’s gladiators of gore return on January 27, 2012 in Spartacus: Vengeance. 

The series picks up after the massacre at House of Batiatus, which has left Capua in flux and the escaped gladiators in an uneasy alliance. Vengeance marks the debut of Liam McIntyre as Spartacus, after Andy Whitfield left the role to fight non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Take notice Spartacus fans, the testosterone oozing Starz drama is about to get a big dose of ass-kicking estrogen! According to Deadline, Ellen Hollman has signed on as the female warrior Saxa in the upcoming second season, Spartacus: Vengeance. Saxa is described as “a beautiful, vicious, intelligent and fiercely passionate woman that could face any man and have a good chance of coming out the victor.” Spartacus and his men had better make sure they’re wearing cups, because she sounds like a ball-buster.

Starz has had great success with Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Now, the premium cable channel is preparing to launch Spartacus: Vengeance. This second season follows Spartacus: Blood and Sand and finds Spartacus (recast with Liam McIntyre) leading a slave rebellion against Rome.

In other Starz news, its British import, Torchwood: Miracle Day, premiered to a 1.5 million rating in its two combined airings on Friday, July 8. Today, Starz announced the casts of Torchwood: Miracle Day and Spartacus: Vengeance will be featured in Comic-Con panels on July 21.
