Should Grey’s Anatomy Bring Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Back?

Shonda Rhimes may not know which of her Grey’s Anatomy stars will return for Season Nine, but it turns out at least one former Seattle Grace doctor wants to return. In an interview with E!, Katherine Heigl revealed she’s ready to put on Izzie’s hospital scrubs once again.

"I've told them I want to," Katherine tells us. "I don't know... Being a showrunner and being a writer of a TV series like that is so complicated that I mean she's got how many characters are there now? There's a lot and so she's balancing about 40 different storylines, so I don't know if it fits in to their sort of vision for this season or next or however many seasons it goes."

If Heigl were to come back to Grey’s Anatomy it would sure to be controversial among fans. Personally, I’d welcome her return and even the highly improbable return of Isaiah Washington’s Dr. Preston Burke, especially if several original cast members do not return next season. Granted, it might not make sense for Izzie or Burke to come home if Alex (Justin Chambers) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) were no longer onscreen, but I’d rather see characters with Grey’s Anatomy history return, instead of introducing new doctors.

Can a Paramedic Heal Violet’s Broken Heart on Private Practice?; The Doctors of Seattle Grace Separate Conjoined Twins on Grey’s Anatomy!

Pete (Tim Daly) and Violet’s (Amy Brenneman) marriage is on the rocks and it appears Pete is using their separation as an opportunity to sow some wild oats on Private Practice. Meanwhile, Violet gets hit on by hunky paramedic portrayed by Hung’s Stephen Amell. Is anyone else ecstatic that Addison (Kate Walsh) and Sam (Taye Diggs) broke up? Both deal with being single once again.

In the aftermath of learning her husband died on the operating table, Teddy (Kim Raver) questions Cristina (Sandra Oh) about how the surgery went down. Considering how good both actors were last week, you know this is going to be good. Also, the big story on Grey’s Anatomy this week is a risky surgery to separate conjoined twins. Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Crossover in The Works

Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) may not have crossed over to Private Practice from Grey’s Anatomy for the spinoff’s powerful November intervention episode, but it turns out another crossover is in the works. According to TV Guide,  Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) will both appear on Grey’s Anatomy in February, while Derek  and Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) will appear on Private Practice.

Following the "If/Then" episode of Grey's — in which Kate Walsh will appear in an alternate reality that sees Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) alive and Addison and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) still married — Caterina Scorsone's Amelia will head to Seattle Grace for an episode slated for mid-February. Details are scarce, but both Derek and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) will also appear in the Private Practice hour of the crossover.

Is it Time For Addison to Dump Sam on Private Practice?

Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) has been one of my favorite TV characters since she first swept into Seattle Grace on Grey's Anatomy, and I loyally followed her to Oceanside Wellness when Private Practice premiered. In my opinion, the last few seasons of Private Practice have been consistently better than its predecessor.  However, something about this season has felt off.

Addison and Sam’s (Taye Diggs) relationship has been strained this season because of his lack of interest in having another child, while Addison is feeling the ticking of her biological clock like a thud.

How are we as viewers supposed to invest in this couple, when he’s so unwilling to be the father of her baby? Are we expected to believe that after refusing to be the biological father, he’s all of a sudden going to sign up as diaper changer and late night baby feeder? Conversely, Addison’s decision to put her need for a baby, over the wishes of the man she’s supposedly in love with, makes one question how much she actually loves Sam. Both know what they want, but they are on different paths.

The introduction of Dr. Jake Reilly (Benjamin Bratt) has thrown yet another twist in Addison and Sam’s relationship.  Addison left Seattle Grace to start fresh, find herself and figure out what she wants out of life. Now that she knows what she wants and is working so hard to get it, keeping an unwilling partner around seems like a stagnant effort in futility.

Is it time for Addison to dump Sam and try on Dr. Jake for size?
