Torchwood to See Starz in 2011
By Luke Kerr on June 07, 2010
Riding the wave of ratings success brought about by its period drama Spartacus, the Starz channel made another move Monday in its bid to become a destination for quality programming, like competitors HBO and Showtime. The network announced it is co-producing the upcoming 10-episode season of the critically acclaimed Dr. Who spinoff Torchwood, according to Zap2it.
Many Torchwood fans—including me—breathed a sigh of relief when FOX passed on the Torchwood spinoff it was developing, fearing such an adaptation would not live up to the original, or worse. The jump to Starz will shift Torchwood's storyline focus to North America, but in a statement to Reuters, creator Russel T. Davies sai, "It's not a new version, it's not a reboot...It's not going to be 'Lost' and take 20 years to find out what's going on. It's going to have a most remarkable conclusion after 10 episodes."
