Is it Time For Hollywood and Fans to Forgive Mel Gibson?

On October 14 Robert Downey Jr. was honored by the American Cinematheque Awards, but it is what the Iron Man star had to say about Mel Gibson that is drawing headlines.  According to The Wrap, he told the audience.

“I urge you to forgive my friend his trespasses,” Downey said to loud applause. "Allow him to pursue this art without shame."

Downey, whose Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows premieres December 16, explained Gibson came to his aid after his own headline grabbing problems.

“He kept a roof over my head and put food on my table,” Downey remembered.

He said that all Gibson asked in return was that Downey do the same for another person who was struggling.

“It is reasonable to assume he didn’t know the next guy would be him,” Downey joked.

What do you think, should Hollywood forgive the Lethal Weapon star? Should fans forgive Gibson or have you already?

PC Review: Due Date is Outrageously Funny

Outrageously funny and a barrel of belly laughs, Due Date is one of the funniest movie of the year. The flick seems a great reimagining of the 1987 comic hit Plains, Trains and Automobiles, without the trains. Modernized with tons of pot, rampant references to masturbation and a hilarious border crossing, Due Date transcends the Steve Martin John Candy classic with a vengeance. Bad boy Robert Downey Jr. and new comic superstar Zach Galifianakis manage to create a relationship so mutually destructive that it’s impossible to believe either survived.

Sherlock Holmes, It's Elementary Watson...and Great!

Sherlock Holmes is back! Robert Downey Jr. does an excellent job of capturing the brilliance, sparkling wit and incredible arrogance of literature’s greatest detective. However, Downey also adds incredible physicality and a sense of the torment to this most excellent man of science by capturing both the overweening persona and the sense of isolation that Holmes must feel. He also captures the sympathy evoked by the characterization. Holmes is truly a heroic, if tragic, figure in this latest iteration of Holmes just as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle must have imagined him.

It's Elementary: New Sherlock Holmes Trailer

Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and Rachel McAdams are about to provide a whole new take on the Sherlock Holmes legend. In past film versions the Holmes story has always been given the cerebral treatment, however, in the original novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes was in fact written as being as physically capable as he is mentally acute. Director Guy Ritchie looks to pay homage to that fact in this latest, action-packed version. The trailer looks great. I'll definitely be there on December 25, 2009. READ MORE
