Sorority Row

Movie Maniac's Weekend Picks and Pans: Madea, Dead Sorority Girls and Icy Murders

I've never been overwhelmed by Tyler Perry's Madea series of films. They are certainly entertaining and funny, but never exceptional.Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself, is the first one of Mr. Perry's I'm actually interested in seeing.

I'm a major fan of Taraji P. Henson's. Her performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was an absolute stunner. Henson, who also starred in Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys— a film that didn't include the Madea character— will hopefully  elevate the series a bit as April, a bitter, alcoholic night club singer, who hates kids, even those related to her.

The story of Perry's latest flick seems made for the big screen: Madea catches April's niece and nephews robbing her home April balks at helping the three youngsters until Madea enters the picture. Madea's powerful personality and the plight of the kids finally melts the aunt's heart. READ MORE
