2012 (2.75 out of 5)
Starring: John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Woody Harrelson, Jimi Mistry, and Danny Glover
Co-Written and Directed by: Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Patriot, The Day after Tomorrow)
RT Raiting: 37%   Running Time: 2 Hrs and 38 Minutes   Rated: PG-13

I went into the movie expecting a typical Roland Emmerich film and thats exactly what I got.  The story was better than I thought it would be and the action and the destruction made up for the rest.

In 2009, Adrian Helmsley (Ejiofor), a geologist who goes to visit his friend Dr. Satnam Tsurutani (Mistry) in India who has discovered that the earths temperatue is increasing rapidly and something needs to be done quickly.  Helmsley goes to Washington D.C. to give the information to the President (Glover) and his White House Chief of Staff (Platt).  In 2010, the leaders from a few other countries are notified about this situation and they decide to keep everything a secret and come up with a plan to ensure the future of mankind.  Their plan is to make four giant ships in the Himalayas that will be able to withstand the force of the waves.  They have chosen a select group of people who will be able to board the ships and have room for a few more who will be able to attend for the price of 1 Billion Euros each.

Jackson Curtis (Cusack), is a writer and limosine driver for a Russia billionaire, lives in LA who has two kids with his ex wife Kate (Peet).  One day on a camping trip with his kids at Yellowstone National Park he meets Charlie Frost (Harrelson) who believes that the world will end and that the government is keeping it a secret and he tells Curtis that he has a map of where they are building the four ships.  Curtis ignores him first but when he starts to see the big picture he realises that Frost was right all along so he takes his family and gets the map and makes his way to The Himalayas.

If you liked The Day After Tomorrow then you will most likely enjoy this.

Pros: The Entire Cast....For a movie that cost $200M and its major selling point was special effects it had a pretty good ensemble cast.

Cons: The running time which is 158 minutes is way too long.  I think they could have told the same story in 120 minutes and it would have been a better movie.  If I had a $1 for every time something happened that made me roll my eyes I would have enough money to see this movie 3 more times.  As for the special effects they weren't spectacular.  I thought the water looked way too fake in may of the scenes with the large ships.

Good review lost! I see your rating is pretty close to what I thought. Once in a while I want to get mindless and watch things be destroyed and this was it.
