I looked at his filmography on IMDB and I haven't seen one of his movies. I watched part of Arsenic and Old Lace on dvd after it was mentioned on the podcast about a year ago but it wasn't for me so I never finished it. It takes a lot for me to watch an older movie. I think the only two movies I have enjoyed that are considered classics are 12 Angry Men (1957) and It's a Wonderful Life (1939) and both were fantastic.
They're are so many I haven't seen it's a shame but from what I have seen I'll say Notorious.
This may be a obvious choice but my favorite Cary Grant movie, as well as one of my favorite Albert Hitchcock movies, is North by Northwest.
I so agree about Notorious. In that movie his eyes said so much. Ingrid Bergman was fab in that movie.
I also love North by Northwest. He had so much chemistry with Eva Marie Saint. I also loves James Mason.
He did another movie with Ingrid Bergman that I love but the name of it slips me.
I really like Arensic and Old Lace. Those Aunts was just killing folks like it was nothing. It was so easy for them. I was watching TCM and they explained that this movie was one of the first to incorporate product placement. That 's why they were on those phones all the time in the movie. Those were some new BELL phones that the company paid to have in the movie.
There are two of his early movies that I want to like but I can't. As soon as I hear horrible racial names, it turns me off.
I think My Favorite Wife may be my "favorite" one. I think Irene Dunne was one of his best co-stars--talk about chemistry! Also, love The Awful Truth and Penny Serenade with those two.
Additionally, love The Bachelor and The Bobby Soxer, The Philadelphia Story, and the Hitchcock Movies.
Arsenic and Old Lace--as mentioned --is super too!
There are many more--one of the all time great actors. Never got an oscar for a film because comedies and comedic actors rarely get the recognition at oscar time. Crazy, since comedy is a lot harder to do than drama!
Some of my favorites
Father Goose
The Awful Truth
Bringing Up Baby
Operation Petticoat
Holiday
Suspician
Notorious
The Bishop's Wife
An Affair to Remember
North by Northwest
Arsenic and Old Lace - is one of Craig's favorite movies and while I enjoyed it I can't say it is a favorite.
My least favorite Cary Grant movie is probably Indiscreet.
Cary Grant Movies I still want to watch.
Charade
That Touch of Mink
The Grass is Greener
Houseboat
Kiss Them for Me
To Catch a Thief
Monkey Business
Sylivia Scarlett
She Done Him Wrong
I'm No Angel
Born to be Bad
Topper
The Talk of the Town
Once Upon a Honeymoon
Mr. Lucky
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer
Destination Tokyo
Once Upon a Time
None but the Lonely Heart
Every Girl Should be Married
I Was a Male War Bride
People Will Talk
Dream Wife
You have HAVE to see She Done Him Wrong. Mae West is crazy!
I just watched Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. If that movie isn't a metaphor for the housing crisis the country is in now I don't know what is. Really good movie though.
Sylvia Scarlett would be an interesting one to watch Luke. It's quite notorious. It was a HUGE failure when it was released. I think this was the film that lead to Kate Hepburn being labeled box office poison and almost ended her film career. It's become a sort of cult film over the years.
You'll love To Catch a Thief if you're a Hitchcock fan. I've always liked it, but I'm not a big Grace Kelly fan so I've only seen it a couple of times.
Okay, favorite Cary Grant film... tough one. I'd say it's a tie between The Philadelphia Story and His Girl Friday.
