The 84th Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning and Hollyweird is already buzzing about the snubs! While A-list hunks Brad Pitt and George Clooney both received Best Actor nods this year (for Moneyball and The Descendants respectively), their peers Leonard DiCaprio (J. Edgar), Matt Damon (We Bought a Zoo) and Ryan Gosling (Drive) didn't make the cut.
Some critics had hoped Bridesmaids would overcome the academy's snobbery about comedies to take home a Best Picture nod. No such luck. What about Mary Kate and Ashley's kid sister Elizabeth Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene? Many thought she'd be a shoe-in. You tell us, though.

Michael Fassbender deserves a nomination just for showing all the goods.
I think the Academy's nomination of Mexican actor Demien Bichir is a desperate grab for Latino viewers. I don't recall his name ever coming up before during this season.

I don't get what the Acadamy has against Leo DICaprio. Even if J. Edgar was not the best movie IMHO because too academic to my taste, Leo was just owning the role and fantastic as usual... So next year for Gatsby? I don't know why but I have a feeling that Leo will get his first Oscar at 61 year old... As a tribute to his career. Or it must be the Scorcese curse...
So he is the biggest snub IMHO. D
amian Bechir is good in A Better Life for sure but the movie is just so-so and I really don't see how his perf is more unforgettable than Leo as Hoover or Ryan Gosling's in Ides or March or Drive (even if Drive was far too violent for my taste). Go figure... I will support Jean DUjardin in this category...
Regarding Best Movie, the biggest snub is My Week with Marylin which is the most delighful movie I have seen this year with the Artist. Putting War Horse or The Help instead is a joke to me... Anyway, I hope the Artist will win that category.
Best Actress: anybody who has seen Nomi Rapace play Lisbeth Salander in the first swedish movie of the Millenium trilogy would certainly not put Mara Roney in the Top 5 as her performance is miles away from the Nomi Rapace's one. And I agree with The Moustache, Tilda Swinton is just spectacular in "We need to talk about Kevin" and she should have gotten the spot offered to Mara Rooney. The Queen Strip will get it even if I think that Michelle Williams performance in "My week" was just... PHENOMENAL.
Finally and I will stop there, I think that the always brilliant Alan Rickman would have deserved a nomination for his Snape interpretation in the Harry Potter saga... But I will root for Christopher Plummer and his delicious "Beginners"
