Which Shows Did The Emmys Snub in Outstanding Drama?

The 2011 Emmy Nominations are out and while many of the best primetime dramas on television took home well-deserved Outstanding Drama nominations, every year someone ends up snubbed. I was shocked to see Showtime’s Shameless not get an Outstanding Drama nomination. Surely the Gallagher family had some outlandish scheme planned to get the nomination; what the hell happened?

I am ecstatic Justified took home acting nominations for Timothy Olyphant,  Walton Goggins and Margo Martindale, but someone needs to arrest the Emmy voters who didn’t give the series an Outstanding Drama nomination.

While AMC’s Mad Men took home Outstanding Drama nomination, The Walking Dead and The Killing were both snubbed. Each is critically acclaimed and The Walking Dead was a big ratings hit. When Zombies take over the country, Emmy voters had better not look for police officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to save them.

Fox’s Fringe may have to go to another realm to get an Outstanding Drama nomination, but if that’s what it takes then how do I get there? Why is The Good Wife the only remaining broadcast drama good enough to go toe-to-toe with cable series for Outstanding Drama? Surely, series such as Fringe, and others, are worthy of the category.

Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones are both celebrating Outstanding Drama nominations, but what about two other HBO series, True Blood and Treme?

Which series was the biggest Outstanding Drama snub?

I'm sad that Fringe didn't get a nomination this year, but I'm doing cartwheels that Friday Night Lights did, so I'm not complainin'!

I voted for other. I'm not gonna lie.... I'm disappointed that Breaking Bad didn't earn any kind of nomination this year. So ridiculous. This show kicks booty in all departments. I can understand not nominating Bryan Cranston, cause he's won already several times for this show, but the other cast is just as deserving... especially Aaron Paul. Aaron Paul SHINES as Jesse. The show as a whole should've been nominated. It's one of the BEST dramas on TV period. I don't usually go for shows like this, but watching it just one time had me hooked from hello. Disappointed just disappointed.

fyi to Luke Kerr re Margo Martindale--

In early 2004 I went to see a Broadway revival of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, in good part because I've always been a fan of Ned Beatty's work and he was playing Big Daddy. It was a hugely troubled production in which Beatty eventually made public criticisms of his co-stars Ashley Judd (who played
Maggie) and Jason Patric (who played Brick).

I found the production mainly a disaster. Ashley Judd looked lovely but played Maggie with no sex appeal, which made no sense whatsoever. Jason Patric gave one of the most lifeless performances I've ever seen on stage, film, or TV. Ned Beatty was disappointing; perhaps by that point in the run he was burnt out by his weak co-stars. The only good thing about the production was Margo Martindale as Big Mama. She was absolutely wonderful!!!

A few years later, I saw her walking her dog about a block from where I live. I had a lovely chat with her and have had others since. Ironically, I saw her last night, only hours before I learned she'd been nominated for an Emmy. I was thrilled: she's a superb actor and a really nice person.

GAgal28, I agree with you about how great Breaking Bad is, but it's not eligible for any Emmys this year, because it didn't air during the TV season being nominated this year. The last episode aired was in June 2010, which was eligible for last year's Emmys, and this season starts on Sunday, which will be eligible for next year's Emmys. Blame the producers of BB, not the Emmys.

Also, both Bryan AND Aaron WON Emmys last year, so it's not as though they've been snubbed in the past. They'll be nominated again next year, I'm sure.

Chace Crawford submitted his name for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series.....
LMAO! Thought you guys could use an extra CHUCKLE this afternoon! Laughing out loud

Shameless deserved a BOATLOAD of Emmys!! And yes, I would have been absolutely thrilled if Ed Westwick from "Gossip Girl" had gotten a nomination. No way in HELL its ever gonna happen because the old farts who vote for the Primetime Emmys have probably never even SEEN "Gossip Girl." That's why deserving younger actors like Sarah Michelle Gellar have been denied Primetime Emmy consideration in the past. She TOTALLY should have gotten nominated for "Buffy..."

The only show I would take off the list is Dexter and replace it with Justified.

You know what's funny Alstonboy, even though my user name here is GossipGirl, I haven't even watched it for almost 2 years. LOL! I just got tired of the same old plots. I've heard it's gotten better and maybe I'll check it out on DVD sometime.

Gossip Girl,

It's not GREAT. Not unwatchable, but not worth investing an hour of your life in anymore. Just my humble opinion.

I didn't realize that it wasn't eligible. Thanks TV Gord. I know that it has been SO long since I've seen it/new episodes. I guess it's just like what's happening to Mad Men. I did know that both Bryan & Aaron won last year, as they should have. I was seriously excited for that. Again thanks for clearing that up! Smile Anyways... I'm SO glad Breaking Bad returns Sunday. I can't wait!

Me, neither! When Aaron won last year, I jumped out of my chair and cheered! It didn't make sense to me for Bryan to win and bot Aaron. They play off each other so brilliantly! Smile

I was debating between True Blood and Fringe, but ultimately I went with Fringe. Last season was just outstanding.

Am thrilled about Friday Night Lights getting a nod though, and would be over the moon if it won!!!!

The walking dead was movie quality production, engrossing stories, excitement, homages to great horror movies, and still original to itself. I can not imagine that noone thought this worthy of best drama. The premise is not overdone. It is a basic apocalyptic story. That in itself is unusual for tv. No long explanations. You know the set up. Zombies. What makes the story good is the characters that inhabit this much smaller world of people. There is a love triangle that is about 3 good people trying to do what is right. There are all of these shell shocked people who are trying to learn on the fly while trying to internalize that their world is done. Do they even WANT to survive what they once had? Compelling. Then the whole look of the show is that one would expect on a big budget movie. I think this show is about as perfect of an hour of tv as has been produced. Surely that should count for something.

marksnsprmo I agree with you 100%! I haven't been so engaged in a drama series in a very long time! Every episode I was on the edge of my seat! The fact that The Walking Dead was not recognized is a crying shame. But I'm not surprised.

I don't like the zombie/horror genre at all, but I LOVE The Walking Dead. Above all, it's a story of survival that I find compelling.

I guess we're lucky that there are so many good shows on TV today, that great shows from Fringe to The Walking Dead don't make it to the handful of nominations they can hand out.

Rescue Me (like Breaking Bad) was not eligible in this past TV season. The final season started July 13th, which means it can be nominated for NEXT year's Emmys.
