Is Patrick Dempsey Leaving Grey's Anatomy?

Patrick Dempsey recently hinted that he might be leaving Grey's Anatomy, telling Italian Vanity Fair the next season of the primetime sudser would be his last, and that it would be a bittersweet departure. However, the actor's publicist tells The Wrap Dempsey's words were taken out of context:
"He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds."

As a former Grey's fan until recently, I hope the show just goes away. Shonda Rhimes and her minions have turned it into a colossal joke anyhow. The acting is mediocre from most of the new cast and the story-lines aren't great and even repetitive at times. They should just stop it before it gets any worse IMO.

I believe he is leaving despite the quick "I was misinterpreted" retraction. The show is sort of a shell of its former self, and I think the actors can see the blood stained, gauze and writing on the wall.

As long as Chandra Wilson stays, I will remain a happy camper. She IS Grey's Anatomy, as far as I'm concerned.
I enjoy the other actors, but if they want to VOLUNTARILY walk away from a steady primetime gig (like TR Knight did!), then I hope they have saved their pennies. We all know how innane it is to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. If he thinks he's gonna leave this show and become a big movie star, I would advise him to think again.
Look at Katherine Heigl......she left, made a few movies and has vanished into obscurity. I don't really care, of course, since I have NEVER liked Katherine Heigl. But you get my point.

The regular GA cast has gotten way too big. If Mer/Der decide to leave the show then it is time for SR to think about focusing on eight primary characters. I hate that Bailey is barely on the show the last three years.

@alstonboy4315: Chandra Wilson is golden on GA. As for Kay she seems to have fallen into this movie trap of playing the "happy-go-lucky independent spirit" who falls for the awkward guy. All her movies seem to be targeted to the 18-35 year old demographic. If she wishes to truly come into her own as an actress she needs to take on more edgier roles and break away from the typecasting. It's time for her try our for one of those indie Oscar roles where she morphs into a character type we have never seen before.

I think Katherine Heigl is a great actress, but she seems extremely arrogant and unlikable in real life. Every time I see her on TV, all I smell is BITCH. I think she has the talent to be a movie star, but the charisma and relatability? Nope.

Oh my he is so doggone gorgeous. I love the show - granted it was the best in the early days and some of the new characters could say adios and I would not miss them, but the show is still one of my favorites. I hope McDreamy goes nowhere.

Wow, I love Katherine Heigl. I think she is a great actress.
GA, needs to go. Half of the original cast is gone! And I would be a happy camper if Patrick Dempsey left. His character is just some big whiner and he can take whiny Meredith with him. Blah.... I hate that couple.

I personally won't Mind if Patrick Dempsy leaves. He seems like a great person and I do enjoy his acting in other things, but I'm not a fan of Derek Shephard. I think the show could do great things by continuing with single mommy Meredith.
