Will Alec Baldwin Run for Office?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, liberal political activist and 30 Rock star, Alec Baldwin, says he is "very, very interested" in running for political office. The Emmy winner made no official statement for the immediate future, but he did share his concerns about the current state of political contenders—and his future goals in that direction—with CNN:

"The answer is: Yes, it's something that I am very, very interested in. People would say to me all the time, 'Why would you want to do that?' And sometimes I don't want to do it because to leave what I am doing now would be extremely painful.

I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class ... would like to seek public office. We've had men who are Ivy League-groomed running this country since 1988. We've had 22 years of Yale and Harvard, and the problems aren't getting solved."

In 2008, Baldwin originally expressed these political desires on 60 Minutes:

There's no age limit on running for office, to a degree. Something I might do, one day.

And in 2009, he reiterated them in an interview with Playboy Magazine:

I’ll put it this way. The desire is there; that’s one component. The other component is opportunity. A law firm in a liberal Democratic bastion in Ohio state politics sent me a binder with a cover letter that read, “Mr. Baldwin, here’s who we represent, the kinds of cases we handle, our credentials in Ohio state politics. We want you to move to Ohio and run for governor. We will launch your career.”

Baldwin has been very active and outspoken in liberal politics, supported President Obama's political campaign, and contributes sporadically as a columnist for The Huffington Post. If he did run for office, one wonders if ex-wife Kim Bassinger, would vote for him.
