Take My Breath Away: Paramount Clears Top Gun 2 For Take Off
By Jamey Giddens on October 15, 2010

Remember when Tom Cruise was actually crazy cool and not just...crazy? Paramount is hoping you do, since they're reportedly planning a sequel to Mr. Mapother's classic, 80's action romp Top Gun. According to New York Magazine's Vulture blog, Paramount has asked producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to helm Top Gun 2. Cruise has allegedly agreed to reprise the role of Maverick, but only in a lesser capacity and only if his inner Thetan has script approval. Okay, so I made that last part up.

Who do you think should anchor the reboot? Channing Tatum? Taylor Lautner? More importantly, who can even begin to pen a theme song to compete with Berlin's orgasmitronic "Take My Breath Away" (Watch after the jump)?

Honestly, I would love to see a gorgeous kick ass woman take on the role. Perhaps Scarlett Johannsen or Kat Dennings. But for a male lead, I would like to see maybe the guy who plays nate on Gossip Girl or Zac Efron. Channing and the Twilight boys are too overplayed for me.

A female lead...I like!

I like the Channing idea and it would redeam him after that awful G.I. Joe adaptation. Ugh...plese no to Zac Efron or Chase Crawford. How about someone like Justin Hartley? He'd be FANTASTIC in the role of a bad boy Air Force pilot.
As for the female lead...that is a good idea also. I IMMEDIATELY nominate Katee Sackhoff. She would be AWESOME in the role.
