Box Office Biggie: 'This Is It' Mr. Jackson

Grossing $101 milliion worldwide, according to Variety, This Is It is the smash everyone predicted. Not surprising Michael Jackson's tribute film is a massive draw for fans everywhere. Jackson, self proclaimed "King of Pop," is one of those rare individuals that transcends borders and truly belongs to everyone. The American box office as well was kind to the Sony picture with a domestic of $21.3 million.

Second in the America box office race was the sleeper hit Paranormal Activity. Quickly turning into a word of mouth phenomenon, Activity, with a weekend of $16.5 million a 22% drop according to the Variety post, could stay strong for some weeks. Halloween weekends are traditionally weak for moviegoing so it's no surprise that Saw VI saw a large drop (61%) and Amelia, Hillary Swank's latest, dipped 24% to about $3 million.

With Cameron Diaz's The Box, Milla Jovovich's The Fourth Kind and George Clooney's The Men Who Stare at Goats all released Nov. 6th, I think there will be little challenge to the top two this coming week, but you never can tell. See you at the movies, front and center.
