Top 10 Must Have Funny Scary Movies

Juicy zombie goodness, freaky slasher fun and cowardly vampire killers all get together in this list of the funny scary movies that you must have. You’ve just watched Twilight, True Blood’s season finale left you wanting more, or the vampire you had over for dinner is looking mighty hungry and your pet just wasn’t enough? Put on one of these films and take the hungry bloodsucker’s mind off your pulsating neck (oh, and head to the bedroom for a scarf). These are movies I’d recommend to anyone.

No. 10: The Fearless Vampire Killers - Wacky, wacky, wacky is all I can say about this semi-traditional take on the Dracula story. It's sexy, sexy, sexy too... and funny, funny, funny. If you don’t enjoy this one, you must BE one of the undead.

No. 9: Night of the Comet - Cheerleaders, zombies, automatic machine guns and lots of gore are definite pluses in putting together "must have" horror films and Night has it all. It even has a secret group of mad scientists. How much better does it get?

No. 8: Tremors - Oh yes, the special effects sucked and the acting was less than adequate, but it was made up for in the sophomoric plot and lack of any particular point. Though goldarnit, something clicked in this film that made it work.

No. 7: The Evil Dead (Trilogy) - A hyper-masculine Bruce Campbell, a chainsaw strapped to his arm, fighting monsters and the undead… what more do I need to say? All three movies in this series: The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn and Army of Darkness are outrageous, hilarious and just downright fun.

No. 6: Re-Animator - So bad it’s good. You should own this film if: you are a sick puppy, you like gore and aren’t disgusted easily, you simply don’t belong in the human race or you are an undead ghoul of some sort.

No. 5: Scream (1&2) - Breaking new ground, Scream actually helped to change some of my feelings about a hated genre. Roughly a “slasher” film, Scream is an entertaining, fun semi-spoof of a genre that thoroughly deserved it.

No. 4: Zombieland - What do you do if the world has gone to hell, there are only 4 people alive that aren’t out to taste “the other white meat (human)” and you really, really want a Twinkie? Naturally you team up and travel the countryside looking for an amusement park. Yep, Zombieland is one of the funniest horror films ever.

No. 3: The Lost Boys - Kiefer Sutherland is at his maniacal best as the gang leader of a small cult of teenage bloodsuckers. Set in a seaside village with a very active boardwalk, the film has an interesting dynamic of fun – at a cost.

No. 2: Shaun of the Dead - One of the funniest movies in decades and campy almost to a sixties level, there is something particularly charming about this film. Sure, it has massive numbers of zombies and enough gore for a Halloween bash in NYC, but the relationship between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost make them one of the top comedy teams ever.

No. 1: Fright Night - One of the best horror movies around, Fright Night is a film that, without the gore and mayhem, manages to be frightening, funny and captivating all at once. There is something truly creepy about watching a master vampire eat a juicy red apple while staring at juicy humans.

Shaun of the Dead was ok, but I didn't like it as much as Hot Fuzz and zombie vs. zombie movie I like Zombieland the best.

I liked Zombieland better than Shaun too. Although, technically are the "zombies" in Zombieland really zombies? Were they the undead or a person who was infected by a bad hamburger who infected other people?

Have you guys heard about Dead Snow??

It's a Norwegian movie but it's about Nazi Zombies! I mean... what can be better than that? Really gore but still very funny.

Plot : "A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies."

Always remember...Zombie is as Zombie does, so yes Zombieland's zombies are zombies, fer real...and Nazi Zombies High-Larious.

28 Days Later Zombies were also infected, but if you really want to get technical, only Zombies created by Voodoo (and other witch doctory or shamanistic means) are Truly Zombies.Even Will Smith's Zombies would have to go.

what about Planet Terror? It was a truly ridiculous zombie movie, although, I believe they too were infected by some flesh eating virus. Death Proof that went with it wasn't so great though.

I think Craig is not a huge fan of Grindhouse... Neither Planet Terror nor Death Proof! I, myself, enjoyed both movies (especially Death Proof but I'm a huge sucker for Tarantino's style!)

Anyway, I had another suggestion for the Top Ten Funny Scary Movies, and it's one that I have never heard you talk about in your podcast!
"An American Werewolf in London" by John Landis! I find it has an amazing mix of funny and scary and I think it's the best Werewolf movie ever made to this day.
What do you guys think about this one?
