Movie Maniac's Picks and Pans: Zombieland and The Invention of Lying

Comedy bonus weekend coming up! Zombieland and The Invention of Lying, both comedies, both have great trailers and both have great comic lead actors: Woody Harrelson and Ricky Gervais. I want to see you all; be there or be square.

If you haven't seen the trailer you must be living in a mud hut. It's everywhere. Zombie comedies are some of the best horror films and Zombieland is in great company. Films like Night of the Comet, Shaun of the Dead and Return of the Living Dead are hilarious and Zombieland is going to be right there with them. Harrelson is always best when he's funny (check out Anger Management) and this may be his best.

Who says there are no new ideas in Hollywood? Well, me, but I was wrong once and could be again. I love the trailer, I love the concept and I'm beginning to love Ricky Gervais. The premise: Ricky Gervais is in a world where he wakes up to find that lying has never been invented and he's the only one that realizes it. The Invention of Lying is Gervais' first real breakout film and if Lying is half as good as the trailer, it is his first in a great movie career. Another hilarious addition to this weekend, The Invention of Lying, is going to be hard to stay away from (and I won't). See you there, front and center, at the movies.

Saw it this weekend and it was ok. I think it would have worked better as an SNL sketch rather than a full movie. There are a few great one liners and also a few cameos.
