The new Sherlock Holmes film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law hasn't even hit theaters yet, but Warner Brothers has decided to give the sequel a go, according to The Hollywood Reporter. To write the script for the new film, the studio has brought in Kieran and Michele Mulroney, who also wrote the upcoming Ryan Reynolds movie Paper Man. Sherlock Holmes arrives in cinemas on Christmas Day. The film was directed by Guy Ritchie, the mastermind behind such cult favorites as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, RocknRolla, and Snatch. Snatch star Brad Pitt is also rumored to be taking the lead bad guy role of Moriarty in the Holmes sequel.

Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty in the new pic, say people familiar with the project, though there is no deal in place for him to take the part.
So is anyone else counting down the days till Christmas like I am? I can't wait for this new version of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tale to see how Ritchie will incorporate Moriarty into the first film and build up for the sequel.

I am excited about the news of the producers trying to get Pitt but I don't know if the first film will do as much as business as anticipated. Usually Guy Ritchie films don't many any money in the USA. His highest grossing film is Snatch and that only made $30M. I know that Sherlock Holmes is his first blockbuster to come out and its coming out Christmas Day so it will do a lot better than some of Ritchie's other films but I would be surprised if this films makes more than $100M Domestically. I think it might do more overseas than it will do here.
