Summer Lovin' Had Me a Blast

I was just checking out the USA Today movie news and found myself in complete disagreement. Today's "Summer Movie Report Card" and it's conclusion that the "Season starts fast, then slips" is wrong. In truth, this has been one of the best seasons in years. With Hollywood actually slipping and fewer movies coming to wide release, the summer of '09 turned out to be a steady delight.
Nearly every weekend – even in August – at least one extremely watchable film came to local cinemas. With films like Inglourious Basterds, District 9 and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince pulling up the numbers, not only has the summer been fun, nicely balanced and a financial success, but a pleasure for movie junkies. The Hangover, Julie & Julia and The Time Traveler's Wife were also pleasant surprises.
2009 will not be a record breaking summer, but in recent memory, it's one of my favorites. Take advantage of it. Hollywood didn't hit it out of the park, but it did make the dog days of summer a little easier to take.
Hollywood's numbers actually improved as well, according to the article. USA Today quoted ticket sales at 4.26 billion up from 4.2, a modest improvement – possibly due to higher ticket prices.
There were dogs, Land of the Lost for one, but all in all the season was better than 2008. Disappointments were rectified by the big winner, Star Trek.
